A Milestone created, "BACK THEN"

SP Burners, a team that had made it's name in the touch scene. But the situation here is, "had". Whatever blood and sweat is already in the team's heart and soul of it and is soon, i'm afraid, going into the history books.

SP Burners is a place, where we enjoy good companionship, a brotherhood of strong bonds and a never ending passion for the sport we all die for, a good game of TOUCH. A sport that was totally new to everyone who took a first step forward, to ask what is this sport about at the booth, and eventually earning your first jersey, your FIRST BURNERS Jersey.

Back then, Chia Hsien said, "We have started off as people's shadows, underdogs of every league. We wont the favorites around and we always were behind RP." He got tired of seeing silver, and for a period of time, every competition his team participated, we step into the field anticipating silver. I remembered, as his teammate, as a player, who just started off touch, who felt that strong feel of disappointment. It was all, "BACK THEN".

Many outsiders, many people, start to see changes, to see something, indifferent about the Burners. Came a new era, a brotherhood of real brothers, who fought for each other on the field, and at times, fought with EACH OTHER on the field. But that's alright, cause tough times dont last, tough man do. And is cause of this, the brotherhood bond got stronger.

Gold, was the only medal seen in all the pictures. Pictures filled with smiles, a group of Reds in the picture, all happy. The pioneer team started of with 10 players, then added on to a good 18 regulars, and lastly, the current batch that can add up to almost 30 players. As a captain, how happy to see every training, there is people to play, people to learn, and people enjoying 4hrs of just fun together.

Problems are maintained through hardwork and determination. Chia Hsien tried very hard to pull the team together, I and Muhdy have succeeded to make the team, THE TEAM across all polytechnics, Joseph, Vincent and Yi Liang maintained it through their blood and sweat, and now, what story is to be made in this era of SP Burners.

To a team that many people love to play in,

to a team that many people feared to play against,

to a team that made a name for itself,

Will it be an end?

From all the previous Burners who have made it into the history books,

to the currently batch of Burners,

please help to keep the team alive.

so the match against Uwc was 7-6 and we lost, and also we lost 10-1 to senior mixed.

i had forgotten who score and who played for both matches.

and currently Brandon, Vincent and Weilun scoring 7 tries each.

the season is coming to an end, but that's not going to stop us from training even harder.

Asian all school is the next competition and let's put in effort and train hard and work towards the competition.

YOUTH IN TOUCH 2009

All the fitness that we do, all the punch up trainings with chia hsien, all the push up, all the arrow heads with derrick, all the diving with derrick, all the runs, all the fights all the quarrels that we went through together during training never go to waste.

On saturday 1st August 09, sp burners show up as a team, play as a team and win as a team. =)

And thank you sp legends, chia hsien and derrick, who came back, play and win with us. =) and also thank you to the three other sp legends muhdy, edwin and sunny, =)

and junior even though you guys lose, but there are a lot of things all of you can learn from the defeat. =) don't feel discourage, and still do come down for trainings and train even harder. let's all improve together as a team as and work even harder for the next comp! =)

Singapore All Schools

TFS will stage the second Singapore All Schools Championships May 23rd, Saturday

This Tournament is open to all schools / representative school teams in both boys and girls divisions. (Meaning RP, NP and those international schools like UWC will be joining)

Age categories include: -

20's' 18's; 16's: 14's; (You guys will be joining under 20's)

Player registration fee: The Team Entry fee is $100 per team (minimum 10 players - maximum 14 players) and the Player Entry fee is $15 per player.

Considering this as one of the major competitions this year, you guys will be sending a team of 14 for this competition. It will be held at a Saturday, so make yourself free. Posted this early so noone will have the excuse say you got something on that day.

Will be naming the 14 players soon so turn up for trainings.
It's time for you guys to train towards this competition and show what you have.

To summarize what happen yesterday,

1. Basics of the Basics will bring you far
2. Gap reading is more important then ball watching
3. Now you know how to attack, time to learn how to defend

First half score
Blacks 4 - SP 4

Second Half Score
Blacks 4 - SP 3

Moves we do:
4 man Punch Up
Aussie

First Half Analysis
We are letting in tries because of agility and your quickness to react. Defense errors like not cornering correctly will cause you to get step easily. Blacks are scoring off tries individually, so is SP defensive error not to cover for teammates.

Second Half Analysis
Fitness level is an issue. Though we are working with 1 sub, we manage to hold them back. Remember to alternate between 3Ruck and 4man. You are tired, use 3ruck. Recover and attack with 43 or 44.

Attack on the tryline
Aussie is one move with 5 variations.
Key points to note:

1. When doing the quickie, remember is a commit pass option first, followed by the dive
2. We need to work on those long passes as that is the strength of this move
3. Good options on the step back and dummy breaking line

Remember, good touch is all about doing the basics right and perfecting it.

Draw and pass, Gap hitting and loop, commit switches, tactical dumps is what you need. Will be working on it this Thursday training.

Bucks Men have speed but lack in stamina. Strong punch-ups in their center will totally crush their
team's defense. Arrows and Rain will be the only moves that works for them as their wingers always get sucked in.

NATIONAL YOUTH TRAINING SQUADS

Open to all who wish to participate (Must be born in 1988 or younger)

Training will be 9.00am – 12.00pm Sundays – Venue will be Turf City

Dates are 6/7, 20/7, 3/8, 17/8, 31/8, 14/9

(These are the initial dates for all players – The squads for each age team will commence their own training after this)

Cost will be $15.00 per session – 6 @ $15.00 = $90.00

This will include shirt, water, fruit, coaching, etc.

Participants must be registered – via email, including name, date of birth, email address, and shirt size

Teams for the Youth World Cup (NZ in Jan) for 18s and 20s will be selected from these squads

Possible Australian tour in November for 13 years and under

Guys if you are interested and you think you got what it takes, feel free to participate. Like what coach say, he want most of us to get into the Youth World Cup squad.

If you never try, you will never know if you will get selected or not so why not go for the trial and see whether you can get in the squad or not. If unlucky you cannot get in, you will still gain experience from the training there. Learn new things when you are still young so guys lets work for the future.

After going through alot of hard work during training and also the effort that was given during the competition, We made it.

To be honest, although i keep shouting and scolding during the competition, i'm proud of the team. I enjoy playing for SP even thought i'm a illegal player. Once again, congrats to us SP Burners for putting up a good fight.

Both Alpha and Beta team, i believe every single one of us put in our best effort. Hope you all enjoy yourselves and also learn more about the games and gain more experience. More trophies coming up? Train harder during training and i believe we can make it.

Training will resume on Thursday which is 26 June.

We year 3 having Beach Fun Touch Under 20 boys on 5/7/08 at Sentosa Siloso Beach starting most likely 8am. (PLEASE BRING A SOCKS FOR THOSE WHO PLAY. IF NOT YOU WILL HAVE BLISTERS)

Players if you still remember, we play this competition last year and in the final, we lost to RP during the sudden death by 1-0. This time round we have to win, the game is ours to lose it.

Yo people, it's me again the Great Gonzalez. Since i was told to update the blog on the game against SRC during today's training, here i am going to update you all about the match.

Location: SP Sports Complex
Weather: Cloudy with lots of lighting
Field Condition: Average
Attendance: 19

The game commence really well in the first few minutes with Fan scoring the 1st try for SP by burning through the gap between the center and link for the SRC team. Our defence was working quite well at first until the point of time when some of us wasn't really alert and that led us to concede a few tries.

The 2nd half of the game is better having Wei Lun scoring 2 tries althought we concede more but the level of performance was better. However, i believe we still have alot more to learn. The team did really well today having every single one giving all out. The attacking speed was quite and manage to score 3 tries pass them is something you all should be proud of. Train harder and everyone will improve to play against clubs.

Lastly, on personal note! I would like to apologise once again for the attitude and those shouting i've created during the game. Hope you all can bear with me.

Phrase to remember: Dump on space not face

Things we need to work on: Defence, team work, dumping square on, off the mark, spliting, Rain and finally the most important ball handling.

A video for you to learn more about how other professional play. Learn it from them and observe the gaps and space to attack.

Man Utd 1-0 Roma: Roma pay the penalty

Carlos Tevez capped an industrious display with the only goal to steer Manchester United into the semi-finals of the Champions League for a second successive season.

The Argentina striker put the game out of Roma's reach by scoring in the 70th minute at Old Trafford to ensure the match was beyond Roma.
It was his fourth goal of the European campaign and his 17th of the season and set up a clash with Barcelona in the last four.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has likened Tevez to Eric Cantona in the way he can change the face of games.

And it was appropriate that the Frenchman was in the stands to appreciate the striker's contribution to the cause.

The SMU Touch Team will be organising a beach touch tournament, smuTOUCHDOWN! on 27th April 2008 (Sunday), at Tanjong Beach, Sentosa.

This year, we have 3 categories: the U20 Girls, Women's Open as well as Mixed Open cats. We will be playing a fun touch 3v2 format with 6 in a team (min of 2 females in the Mixed Open cat). Team registration is $60 and there will be attractive prizes for top teams and exciting goodies for everyone to bring home! nEbO is one of our sponsors and they have generously offered additional prizes for nEbo-ians, that is, if any of those who achieve top 3 placing in each category are nEbO members or sign up on that day, they will receive attractive additional prizes. All are encouraged to sign up as nEbo members during this event as there will be a special event registration price for full time students below the age of 25. Privileges include $6 weekday and $8 weekend movie tickets, $2.50 bowling games to name a few..

Apart from playing touch, some of you might be interested in "sumo wrestling, laser tag, kayaking, bungee trampoline" (just to name a few activities that will also be held at the beach on that day). Another event called VOLAR! (organised by an SMU adventure club) will also be adding to the fun factor on 27th April!

Arsene Wenger blasted referee Pieter Vink for turning down an Arsenal penalty claim in tonight's 1-1 Champions League quarter-final draw in the first leg at home to Liverpool.

The match was finely balanced in the second period at the Emirates Stadium when Dirk Kuyt appeared to pull back Aleksandr Hleb in the box - only for the Dutch official to wave play on.

Good day people, it's been awhile since EDn "The Great Gonzalaz" last post something here.

According to Derrick "The Great Wall Capiton", we will have a friendly match with NP on thursday training. Just to remind you people again, In order to have a friendly match, we need attendance. Without attendance, how can we play a match. I remember when Derrick organise a friendly against RP, we only have 6 players without subs so in the end we play until very tired.

It's not good to have people coming into SP and have a friendly match in our home ground with us only have 6 players.

According to our previous games with our current rival NP, we lost to them in a tournament when we were leading 2-0 and they catch up to us and make the scoreline 2-2 during the final whistle. We end up playing the sudden death and when we were in a 3 vs 3 scenario, we concede a simple try and we lost the competition. So people, in order to compete with them once again, we have to train and upgrade ourselves. I'll hope for better attendance during training this season.

Oh ya!! By the way there might be a special cameo appearance by Edmundo Dicaprio. (Look at the word MIGHT) so don't expect so much..

Recap,

CCA drive can be quite a driving me mad situation. But anyway, regarding my previous post, what I meant was to stick it on them hands or whichever "uncovered areas" when you go parading/promoting your touch rugby skills. Because cotton tees can cost $140 from agnes b. but has lousy ass quality. So please refrain from hurting those egoistic little gay boys heart.

Also, where's the rugby fund (Derrick answer that please)? Perhaps we can have a challenge. Each player is to have 50 stickers with their own name and contact written on it. At the end of the CCA drive, whoever manages to recruit the most kids WINS. So jackpot bitches.
